Last week, on April 20th, our group discussed the design proposal that was posted online and began to think about the safety precautions that should be addressed in our design. One of our important design goals listed was the new electrospinning apparatus' safety features. Electrospinning can be a dangerous process, due to the toxic solvents, sharp needle, and high voltage power source involved in spinning nanofibers. Part of our initiatives for this week was to research the different safety features and regulations on different parts of the new design. The following research tasks were assigned to the specified group members:
On April 16th 2012, our group had a meeting to discuss our progress and the research each one of us had found. We discussed the background information and different companies that have developed electrospinning technologies. We also discussed and updated the design we wish to include in our design proposal. We also discussed and confirmed it is important to reduce the number of variables that can affect the electrospinning process.
Samuella Andrè is a freshman Biomedical Engineering major as Drexel University. She plans to concentrate in Biomechanics and Human Performance with a special interest in prosthetic design. She enjoys spending her down time playing the saxophone and watching old movies. Samuella plans on graduating from Drexel with a Bachelor and Master degree in 2016.
Peter Hayashi is a freshman Biomedical Engineering student. He is involved in Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, and Millennium Hall Council. Peter plans to concentrate in Tissue Engineering and graduate Drexel University with a Bachelor and Masters Degree in 2016.
Kenneth Rodriguez is a freshman Biomedical engineering student at Drexel University. He is interested in the tissue engineering concentration, where he would study regenerative medicine practices to help those with degenerative diseases, those in need of transplants, and cancer patients. He enjoys playing guitar and drums, playing sports, and cooking. He hopes to graduate in the class of 2016 with his Bachelor and Masters degrees.
